Is there any way to test if a sub is broken my brother has an infinity sub which he replaced with a JL sub.

The infinity we think is broken but it still works just makes an odd sound when its working kind like a rattling or something maybe I can take an audio clip tommorow.

Before I toss the infinity sub in the garbage I though we should figure out if its really broken or can be fixed.

Did you test the Infinaty sub in the enclosure, or did you take it out of the box and test the sound. If you build the box yourself sometimes you get little chunks of glue...or...something rattles apart. Sometimes the woofer rings lossen with time. How long have you had the Woofer? Did you abuse it often, go DB racing? What amp did you use? How much % of the power of the amp were you pushing?

Usually if a woofer is old and discontinued, its usually not worth it to fix. I find the car audio industry is build on...make it as cheap as possible for the masses, and when they brake...buy a new one lol.

Looks like this... I tried to make a video of the noise I am hearing but its not apparent in the video... I just feel bad chucking it in the garbage if there is nothing wrong with it or can be fixed.

It looks fine from the pic, but I wouldnt know unless I hear it...is it like an electronic buzzing? Could be just being overpowered or some bad wiring...wrong ohmage...?

If its like a wierd muffled sound when people with deep voices are talking, or the base drops arent crisp it could just be that the wiring is starting to decay and rot, but your woofer looks pretty new...its not even covered in dust. Its still pretty white and not turning like grey like some of the other woofers Ive seen.

Maybe a pinhole in the rubber mount? or a tiny hole in the diaphram...have you ever loaded up your trunk and hit it with something?

I hear that with infinaty audio, unless its their "compitition" level speakers and woofers that they do konk out with "heavy" use.

It's my brothers... he said it was broken we have had it sitting in our store room in the basement I cleaned it out and he said just throw it out but... I dont think its really broken he just wanted to get a JL sub instead.

Its like a ratting noise... I am not up on audio stuff like this... I can read instructions and build boxes and hook it up but I am not really knowledgeable about the details

This is the simmlar new one;
http://www.infinitysystems.com/car/products/product_detail.aspx?prod=REF1260W&cat=SUB&ser=REF&Language=ENG&Country=GB&Region=EUROPE

On the sub it says 12" Infinity Referance Serries
1230W
300w RMS
1200 Peak
Made in Korea

Its like an internal rattleing sound.

If its an internal rattle within the woofer, really the only thing you can do to save it is to send it back to the factory and have them fix it.

Its that or its just some random loose wires.

Like rattling as in something is loose inside the actual woofer speaker right?

Down by the magnet... I talked to my brother to see what actually was happening and the said it got stuck or sticks then its installed in a car with the proper power and oms etc my home stereo has no where near the power to really get this thing pumping.
